HELLO CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE

It’s July 4th and what would this day be without celebrating the birthday of the country in the place where the Declaration of Independence was written , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania .

I have been to Philadelphia many times but not in the past couple of years and especially not on July 4th.

I rode the 2:35pm Megabus ,which starts at 34th Street and 11th ave.

It’s supposed to be a 2hr ride depending on traffic , but with the way the driver was driving it might be shorter.

It seemed as though he either wanted to get home to eat some food , see the firecrackers or maybe he had a plane to catch because he went through the Lincoln Tunnel really fast.

When I and the other passengers finally settled in , the driver made several announcements .

One of which I really wasn’t in the mood to hear.

‘This bus will only be making ONE stop in Philadelphia today. Due to the July 4th parade , we will NOT be stopping at 6th and Market Street . ‘

Wouldn’t you know it?

That’s the stop that’s the closest to the hostel that I’m staying at .

It’s only 3-4 blocks away from 6th and Market.

I was going to have to do one of two things .

Take the SEPTA train from 30th street down to 2nd Street or walk 27 blocks to the Hostel.

As I’m only staying one night, I don’t have that many bags.

As the bus is getting closer and closer to Philly , I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet.

No matter what I decide to do , all that matters is that I’m spending America’s 243rd birthday in America’s first capital , Philadelphia .

THINKING ABOUT  TRAVEL  WHEN IT’S  A WINTER WONDERLAND OUTSIDE.

Winter is here ,  unofficially .

December  21st  is the first day of winter here in the United  States .

When I look outside my window ,  I see snow.

It looks  really  beautiful  and I can’t  wait  to take some pictures .

Some parts of the United  States  got more snow than other parts as usual .

If I lived down South, let’s  say in the cities of Houston ,  Atlanta ,  or even New Orleans ,  the 2-3 inches of snow that they received  would cause  all kind of panic on the roads and streets of those cities .

However, I live in New York  City  and like other cities in the Midwestern  and Northeast states in the country, the three inches of snow is called  something  else .

We call it, “Nuisance  Snow”.

Some of us play in it when it first comes  down, making snow angels and snow balls to throw at our friends or relatives .

Some of us know how to drive in it when it hits the streets  or highways.

We definitely  know how to walk in it, because you know, it’s  New York  City ,  we’re  in a hurry to get no where fast.

We also know how to shovel and salt that sucker so that we or our neighbors  don’t  slip and fall .

As usual ,  the snow coming down is making me think of one thing.

You guessed  it.

Travel and not just doing a 30  Plus  Teams  Tour  to some place  warm, although going to Tampa  or Miami sounds wicked  good right about  now  as it was 28 degrees Fahrenheit  outside.

Nashville  sounded really good too, until I noticed that “Music City” was getting some snow too .

So much for that idea.

As you can tell ,  you don’t  need a warm sunny day  to think  about  travel.

You can do it anytime  and in any kind of  weather .

Wintertime  should  be  the  time that you really  get those travel juices going and of course,  , you don’t  need to do a 30 Plus  Teams  Tour .

The Carribean, Australia ,  Greece, or New Zealand  are good ideas as is Italy or Israel .

There’s  only three weeks left in 2017, go somewhere .

Just don’t  think about it.

Do a day trip for God’s sake .

Think about your next trip, even if it is  a winter wonderland  outside.
