You all are on your 30 Plus Teams Tour of Washington DC .
The four of you have lost count of how many statues , memorials , monuments and museums that you’ve seen since you arrived in town .
You’re going to see the Jefferson Memorial today .
It’s a long walk from where you all just left , but since it’s a nice day and the cherry blossoms are out , the four of you don’t mind the long walk .
Before you reach the Jefferson Memorial , you all notice a statue of a man seated on a bench .
His hat and his cane are on one side of him , and on the other side seems to be a book .
He seems to be smiling , sort of .
You all figure he could be smiling at what a really beautiful day it is , or he could be contemplating the meaning of life .
One of you thinks this has to be a statue of Sir Issac Newton or some other great philosopher .
You bend down to see just who this gentleman is .
He’s not a philosopher , he’s one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia , George Mason .
You all don’t remember his name from American History class but one of you does remember hearing his name from somewhere .
” George Mason . You know , like the school . George Mason University . “, she says .
Now you all remember .
This is a 30 Plus Teams Tour , after all .
You all remember the name from the men’s basketball team in the college basketball tournament .
You know , the one that’s known as ” March Madness ” ?
