MY FAVORITE ROAD TRIP

As the weather starts to get really cold here in New York City , (it’s 49 degrees Fahrenheit right now and I just had a cup of Split Pea with ham soup for lunch.)I’m thinking about one of my favorite things.

No, it’s not going to some sporting event, nor is it shopping, but it’s my third favorite thing to do.

Travel.

I’m not going anywhere for awhile , and that might change, but it’s never a wrong or right time to think about traveling or about your favorite road trip .

I have been to many cities in the United States and today I’m going to talk about my favorite road trip to one of them.

My favorite road trip or trips take place in either the months of April , May, June, August or September , depending on when -.

You get the idea, especially if you follow my blog or even know me personally.

They don’t call me The Sports Diva for nothing.

My favorite road trips ALWAYS involves going to some kind of sporting event because that’s what 30 Plus Teams 30 Plus Dreams is all about.

In this case, my favorite road trip is about my road trips to one particular city.

It’s a city that gets a very bad rap here in the United States and I just don’t know or understand why.

It’s not one of my top two cities but it’s right up there.

If people get to visit this city a little bit more , it would be one of their favorite cities to go on a road trip as well.

The place is known as “Charm City ” but better known as Baltimore , Maryland , just up the road from Washington DC .

It’s just as historical as Washington DC, Philadelphia , Boston, and New York City are, places that many people take road trips to.

Baltimore has always been a place that I’ve had great road trips to , even though I leave the driving to either Greyhound, Peter Pan, Bolt Bus or even one of the “Chinese Buses” that go there from New York City .

I love exploring the Inner Harbor , Mount Vernon, Little Italy, and eating some of the best seafood this side of Boston.

The main reason a trip to B’more is always one of my favorite road trips is meeting up with one of my Circle of Sisters , Susi, every year and going to a New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles baseball game at my favorite baseball park, Orioles Park at Camden Yards.

I think that’s what makes these trips to Baltimore my favorite road trips, going with a good and special friend, having a good time acting silly, eating, having beers at the game, and seeing places that we see all the time like Fort McHenry to learn some American history.

I look forward to going on this road trip every year, and it’s a road trip that I’ve taken since 2012.

I’m hoping to do it again next year with Susi, but I’m not sure when.

Okay, who am I kidding??

God willing, we’re going again at the end of May when once again the Yankees are going to be playing the Orioles.

I can’t wait.

What’s your favorite road trip?

Leave me a comment in the comment section and let me know.

As usual, thank you for liking and supporting my little blog .

MY TRIP TO BALTIMORE – BESTIES, BEER, AND BASEBALL

Since 2012, one of my Circle of Sisters and I have traveled to the city on the Chesapeake Bay , Baltimore , Maryland , also known as “Charm City “.

Back then, when I first went, there was no such thing as a 30 Plus Teams Tour .

We went to Baltimore because we both love baseball and hockey, too, but that’s another story for another day .

Our trips to Baltimore , which usually takes place in either April, June, July, August , or September .

Basically , its the months when the Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles at the place that just happens to be the favorite ballpark of both of us , Orioles Park at Camden Yards , or just Camden Yards for short.

This is the time for my bestie, Sue, and I to really get together.

She lives in Pittsburgh , I live in New York City.

Baltimore is sort of the midway point between the two cities .

Forget what you’ve seen on television or read in the news about the city .

Baltimore is a very beautiful city with a lot of very friendly people.

It’s just as historical as Boston, Washington DC , and Philadelphia are.

There’s bad areas of the city, yes, but there are a lot of cities in the world with bad areas.

Do your research and stay away from those areas if you can.

Talk to the locals while you’re in town.

Don’t be surprised if you’re called “Hon” a lot.

That’s short for honey, and it’s not sexist.

It’s a term of endearment in B’more .

We’ve talked about besties and baseball , what about that other “B”, Beer?

When you’re at a baseball game at Camden Yards , or some other baseball park, you MUST have a Hot Dog, Nachos loaded with cheese and jalapeños, and some French Fries .

Oh, you didn’t know this?

Trust the Sports Diva on this one, it’s sports related.

It’s baseball food and what do you have to wash it down with?

No, not a milk shake, water or a soda.

Beer, that’s the drink of baseball aficionados while at a game, cheering their team on.

They even sell it in the stands during a game.

(Just have your id ready and tip the vendors, don’t be cheap! Remember , after the 7th inning, you can’t get beer because they stop selling it.)

Baltimoreans love a locally brewed beer called “Natty Bohemian ” or Natty Boh for short.

Personally, I go with either Stella Artois Cidre, Blue Moon or Shock Top.

I must admit that this is the only time that I really do beer, because nothing says baseball in the summer like an ice cold beer.

This year, the Yankees don’t make an appearance in Baltimore on Labor Day .

So that means August was the only month that my bestie and I got to see this ball park .

No more Bestie, Beer, and Baseball time this year.

God willing, my bestie and I will have to wait until the 2019 baseball season begins to experience another bestie , beer, and baseball trip down in Baltimore .

We’re looking forward to it.

FRIENDS  –  WE ALL HAVE  THEM, GOOD  AND BAD

You might  be  under  the  impression  that  I  have  no  friends  or  maybe  even  just  one  because  I  seem  to  do things by myself .

That’s  not true, it just  seems  like  it .

I  actually  have  friends ,  eight  close  girlfriends  whom  I  call  my ”  Circle  of  Sisters  ” .

They  aren’t  only  my  sounding  board  on  work problems ,  (  theirs  since  I’m  retired . ) , family  issues ,  (  because  they  know  that  I’m  nosey  as  hell  and  just  need  to  know  what’s  going  on . ), husbands  or boyfriends ,  (  lack  of  either  or the conversation  usually  begins  with    ‘do you  know  what  that  idiot  did  now ?  !  ), and one of  our  favorite  topics ,  health  issues ,  (  because  we’re  all  getting  older and we all  have  them.)

We’re  women  of  different  ages, religions ,  and  ethnicities ,  but we share one  very  big  thing  in common .

This  is  a  30  Plus  Teams  Tour  so of  course  my friends  have  done  many  of  them  and they  all like sports .

In some cases  not all four of  them ,  but you get the idea .

We did 30  Plus  Teams  Tours  when  it wasn’t  even  called  that .

We didn’t  even think about  a 30 Plus  Teams  Tour  back then.

All one of my  girls  had to say were  the  magic  words ,  ”  Road  Trip  ” .

You  just  knew  what  that  meant  no matter  what  the  sport  was.

Even  back  then  vacations  were planned  around  some  team’s  schedule .

It still  is .

I  actually  made  a  day  trip  from my  home  in  Boston  to meet  one  of  my  friends  in  New Jersey  for an afternoon  hockey  game.

I went  back  to  Boston  after  the  game  was  over  because  I  had  to  work  the  next  day .

I’m  not  going  to  lie  and say  that  I  did  stupid  stuff  with  the  girls  only  when  I  was  younger  and  didn’t  know  any  better .

I should  have  because  as  my folks  used to  say ,  ‘girl ,  you  were  raised  better  than  that ! ‘

When  I  got  a  little  bit  older ,  say in my late 30 ‘ s and early  40’s ,  the  ”  silly ,  stupid  stuff  gene” was back and better than ever .

Now that I’m  older and I like to think a little  bit  more mature ,  I look back and think to myself:

“WOW ,   DID WE  REALLY  DO  HALF  THE  STUFF  THAT  WE DID? !”

Don’t  get me  wrong .

This  wasn’t  the  kind of  things that would have you wearing  an orange  jumpsuit  for  the  rest  of  your  life .

Still ,  OH MY GOD ,  WHAT  WERE  WE  THINKING ?  !

Thank  God  we  all  met  at  a  time  when  there  was  no  social  media .

You  knew  your  friends  from  chuch ,  school ,  work  or the  neighborhood .

In my  case ,  two  of  my friends ,  I knew from  work  and  one went to  high school  with  me.

The  other  six I  met  through  the  pen  pal  section  of  a sports  magazine  and  something  called  ”  Friendship  Books . ”

These  were  little  books  that  you  made from index  cards or construction  paper  in  which  a person  wrote  down  their  name ,  address ,  the  player  or teams  that they liked  and  any  other  information  about  themselves .

You  then  mailed  it  to  another  friend  who  mailed  it  to  someone  else .

When  the book  was full, it was sent to  the  person  who  made the book in the first place .

Believe it or not ,  after all  these years ,  all of us are friendly  with many of the people  whose  names were in those books.

Try doing  that  now .

We now text each other  almost every day and we’re  on social  media    whether  it be Facebook ,  Instagram ,  or Twitter.

Yes, we still get silly and stuck on stupid  from time  to  time .

We don’t  do FB  anymore .

(  That’s  Friendship  Books ,  not Facebook . )

We’ve  been  best friends for a long time  and I don’t know   what I would do if I  didn’t  have my Circle  of  Sisters  around me to be my sounding  board  about  EVERYTHING .

(  Thanks  Susi  Q ,  Lisa ,  Carol ,  Shana ,  Tee ,  Socorro ,  Mish  and  Myra !  Love  you  guys  to  the  Moon  and  back .  )

This includes  going  on  a 30 Plus  Teams  Tour  with  or  without  them  because  we  all  have  the  same  motto .

”  STAYING  HOME  IS  NOT  AN  OPTION .  ”

What  about  you ?

Do  you  have  friends  that  stood  by  you  through  thick  and  thin ?

Do  you  do silly  things when you  get  together ?

Drop me  a  line  in the  comments  section  and  thanks for  liking my  blog .
