You might just miss this restaurant if you aren’t staying farther down the Las Vegas Strip .

It’s located across the street from the Stratosphere .

It always seems to be crowded and if you happen to go into the M and M Soul Food Restaurant , you’ll understand why.

As often as I go to Vegas, I had heard of this restaurant buut never visited becayse I didn’t know where it was.

I’m sorry that I missed this place .

The food that they serve here is what a lot of Southern blacks , like my parents, who moved to New York from North and South Carolina, grew up eating.

There on the menu were things that I remember my family members making, shrimp and grits, which the restaurant only makes on the weekends , smothered pork chops, fried chicken, chitterlings, short ribs, meat loaf smothered with gravy, and what I had oxtails with gravy.

The sides are also what I grew up on and still make by the way , collard greens , fried okra, mac and cheese , potato salad , rice and beans , and black eyed peas .

Just looking at the restaurant menu, which closes at 9pm every night, makes my mouth water .

I don’t know what took me so long to discover this restaurant , but I am so glad that I did .

I’m into day 2 of my 30 Plus Teams Tour of Las Vegas and last night I had my usual great time at my favorite club in town, Hyde in the Bellagio Hotel.

I was so excited to do another thing on my bucket list , that I had planned to wake up early and explore the Las Vegas Strip .

So much for plans.

I look out the window and I must be dreaming .

Wait a minute .

It can’t be .

I didn’t come to Vegas to act like a fool and get lit just to see the same nuisance snow that I left in New York City .

This is the desert .

This is Las Vegas .

It’s not supposed to do this.

Yes, it’s the middle of February and it’s supposed to be cold, but snow?

Forget the fact that it’s 2 inches on the streets of Downtown Las Vegas , what we call nuisance snow back on the east coast .

This is Las Vegas , mother nature got confused.

It’s not supposed to do this.

This is Las Vegas , right?

The Sports Diva is on her way to some new adventures.

I’m on my way to Newark Liberty Airport, a place that I hadn’t been to in years .

Actually , it was three years ago , but who’s counting ?

My flight doesn’t leave until 8am , but I have to be at the counter to drop off my bag by 7:15am.

At first I was going to leave my house , which is near JFK,around 3:45am, the day of my flight .

I would get to Newark around aboutn4::30am.

No such luck as the first bus leaves Port Authority at 5am.

It takes about an hour , not counting traffic , nope that’s not going to happen.

I’m here at Newark Liberty and I was able to print out my boarding pass as well.

Now I just have to wait to drop off my bag and another 30 Plus Teams Tour is about to begin .

I’m at Newark Liberty Airport waiting for a 8am flight.

I’m standing in line at 3:40am to check my bag on Spirit Airlines .

I have a 5 hour flight to McCarron International Airport in Las Vegas .

That’s right, the Sports Diva is taking her 30 Plus Teams Tour to Las Vegas , but wait I have a surprise for you .

Sin City isn’t the only stop on this 30 Plus Teams Tour , oh no.

My next stop is a place that I called home for 10 years .

It’s the City of Angels , better known as Los Angeles , California .

But that’s later in the week.

Let’s talk about my flight on an airline that I said that I would NEVER fly again, Spirit Airlines.

Never say never.

Spirit airline planes are bright yellow with black lettering on it, just like a New York City taxi cab.

If you happen to be sitting near the wing, you’ll aee the word “howdy ” on the wing.

This is because one of their hubs is Dallas , Texas, and in Texas, folks great you by saying, “howdy “.

I had taken Spirit before, either from La Guardia in New York or Philadelphia and all four times I was flying into, you guessed it, Las Vegas .

All four times I didn’t have a great experience and said that I would take a Greyhound Bus before I ever flew Spirit again .

I decided to give them a try even though Newark Liberty is no where near my house, I live closer to JFK .

But when fares from Newark to Las Vegas one way are $62 , you find a way to get there.

Now if you’ve never flown them before, here’s some tips.

You’re going to be paying for EVERYTHING , carry on bags, check in bags, snacks, drinks, including water and credit cards only.

You’ll be paying for seats that don’t recline.

You want more leg room ?

You pay for those too.

The only thing that’s free is your personal item and a lot of people stuff a lot of clothes into a small backpack.

Don’t try to cheat on your personal item, because all the gate agents are going to make sure your personal item is legit .

If not, you’re going to be paying.

Your tray table is very small, so hold onto those drinks and snacks that you just purchased.

Now if this doesn’t seem like the airline for you, take another one.

A lot of people seem to like this airline , though, much to my surprise .

I was able to move my feet up and down , dancing in my seat to the

song that was playing on my tablet.

Speaking of electronics , don’t look for WiFi on the plane.

There isn’t any.

(C’mon Spirit, step up your game , my people. Let the peeps have some WiFi ! )

The fare was good and the flight attendants were truly helpful, I might just fly the big yellow taxi in the sky again .

Now if only they flew out of JFK .

Once again, it’s that blog post that some of y’all seem to love.

It’s the winter edition of what’s in my suitcase ?

The Sports Diva is going away for about ten days and of course a sporting event is gonna happen because that’s how I roll.

There might even be one, two or three sporting events going on .

You never know .

For 10 days, God willing , where am I going ?

You’ll find out soon enough, but in the meantime , take a guess.

While you’re trying to figure out which not so warm city that I’m going to, ( or maybe I am going to a warm city ), enjoy what’s in my suitcase .

It’s my new blue suitcase , a present from my sister in law . Yes, it will fit everything for 10 days and all the stuff in it isn’t going to be more than 40 pounds, trust me on that.

Blue sweater and beige shirt. Shirt a gift from my cousin and sweater from a thrift store here in Queens .

This is actually a sweater , but because I am 4’11 , this outfit from a thrift store is gonna be a dress.

Grey jacket and black dress from Forever 21 and black dress and red leather jacket from the catalog , Midnight Velvet .

Sorry this is so dark, but orange shirt from Rainbow Shops and black jacket from the thrift store in Queens , where I buy a lot of stuff .

Boots from Midnight Velvet , skirt and pants from my cousin (yes, I’ve got a lot of neices, girl cousins, and great neices who love clothes as much as I do and they don’t donate clothes, it’s more like do you want these?) Black sweatshirt from thrift shop.Shirt from Rainbow Shops .

Pants, pants, and more pants. Sneakers from my cousin and sweatpants once again from that store called, where did I buy these again?

My black shirt from Pittsburgh and red shirt from Las Vegas . It’s all about the bags. Sketchers bag from Sketchers Store. My favorite Boston bag from Primark Store in Boston and three bags, you guessed it , from my cousin . Also making an appearance a toiletries bag from Mary Kay and because I just cant get rid of these suckers , a bag full of medicine that I have to take.

That’s going in my purse, which is the black bag in the picture .

There you have it, this edition of what’s in my suitcase .

Now I might not take all this stuff but who knows?
