You might think that while I was on my 30 Plus Teams Tour of Las Vegas , all I did was eat.

You might be right and it just wasn’t at one of the many buffets or restaurants that the city is famous for.

At The D Hotel and Casino right in the middle of the action on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, there’s a 24 hour restaurant that might just be familiar to those of you who have either been to or lived in Detroit or any other city in Michigan .

The restaurant is called the American Coney Island Chili Dog.

Now, there’s no Coney Island in Detroit , but when the many Greek immigrants who settled in Detroit first came to this country, they went to New York first, and what was the first American thing they ate?

You guessed it, hot dogs.

For some reason, they were given the name Coney Island dogs and these immigrants brought them to their new home, Detroit.

These hot dogs are grilled and slathered with chilli sauce, but don’t look for beans in this chilli .

You won’t find them.

Instead you’ll find a flavorful sauce with onions and you can add mustard or ketchup to it, although I have no idea why you’d want to mess up a perfectly good hotdog by adding ketchup to it, just saying.

This restaurant chain, which is all over the city of Detroit, might have been one of the favorites of the owner of the hotel, Derek Stevens, who was born and raised in Detroit.

In case you didn’t know, the hotel’s name, The D, is another nickname for the city of Detroit.

Prices at the restaurant are reasonable and they use the same recipe for the sauce that was used by the founders of the original American Coney Island Dog back in Detroit .

You might even see a relative of the founders behind the counter as they do come to Las Vegas from time to time just to make sure the restaurant is sticking to the formula that made this place so popular with Motowners for all these years.

You might not be a fan of hot dogs, but trust me, if you can’t get to Detroit , or if you are from the Motor City, and you want a taste of home while you’re in Las Vegas, get yourself over to Downtown Las Vegas for the American Coney Island Chilli Dog Restaurant .

Can you believe that we’re at the midway point of 2018 all ready and many of you have traveled to exotic and not so exotic places.

Some of you have even done your own 30 Plus Teams Tour.

(Proud of you guys cheering on your teams no matter where it is!)

But what about the rest of you ?

What’s your excuse?

Get inspired, and let these quotes for the end of June inspire you.

When people visit Las Vegas , they stay mostly on the Las Vegas Strip , and if they happen to be staying at one of the downtown casino hotels, people only go to check out the Fremont Street Experience, then they return to their hotels to gamble or if they’re staying at one of those fancy hotels on the Las Vegas Strip , they return to the Strip.

But those tourists in the know, who have been to Las Vegas more than once, know about a place that the locals also know about.

It’s the entertainment district of Fremont Street , known as Fremont East .

Right in the middle of Fremont Street East , on 7th Street is the Downtown Container Park.

What’s so special about this place?

The restaurants and stores are made from shipping containers, hence the name Container Park.

Plus it’s located in Downtown Las Vegas , so there you go, Downtown Container Park .

It opens up at 10am or so, and has an area for children, as well as a domed area for showing movies.

But at 9pm, like the rest of the city, the park comes alive.

No one under 21 allowed in the park after 9pm.

Just like in Paris and other cities, you’ll see “locks of love”, but unlike Paris and other cities, these “locks” aren’t on a bridge .

They’re on a heart with other locks, right on Fremont Street .

Also in front of the park is a giant Preying Mantis .

Don’t worry , it isn’t real , but this is Las Vegas , after all, and you just know that this insect is going to do something like put on a show or something .

After awhile, the eyes of the insect light up and out of its antennas comes fire.

Yeah, that is real, so don’t get too close to it.

To say that the sight of the insect spewing fire might startle you is an understatement, so don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

If you’re staying on the Las Vegas Strip and you know that you want to see the light show at the Fremont Street Experience or glide through the air on Slotzilla, don’t return back to the Las Vegas Strip just yet.

Take a walk down to 7th and Fremont Street and do a little shopping or eating at one of the shops at Downtown Container Park .

In a city known for its buffets and five star restaurants , you wouldn’t expect to see any kind of Thai food, let alone good Thai food.

Venture off from the Las Vegas Strip and head down to Fremont Street , a little bit past the Fremont Street Experience and there it is, Le Thai Downtown Restaurant .

The restaurant is in the area of Fremont Street known as Fremont Street East , which is the entertainment area of downtown Las Vegas .

You’ll find nightclubs, Downtown Container Park, which I’ll talk about later in another post, and one of the oldest casinos in town, El Cortez, which at one time was owned by mobster Bugsy Siegel.

If you take a walk down this street, you will definitely miss Le Thai.

I know I have the many times that I’ve been in town.

The restaurant is open every day but on Monday thru Saturday, there’s happy hour and lunch specials.

The lunch special is from 11am until 3pm and it cost only $9.95 plus tax.

That’s a good deal if you ask me.

I love Thai food and on the special lunch menu, I was happy to see my favorite Thai food , Panang Curry on the menu.

You have a choice with all the items on the special of white or brown rice with either chichen, tofu, shrimp, beef, or pork.

I had white rice with beef, and lemonade.

I was asked by the waitress on a scale of spicy from 1 to 5, how spicy did I want my food?

I went for 2 and it was still spicy but oh so good.

I have had Panang Curry at other Thai restaurants , but not like this.

This curry was very flavorful and instead of string beans, it was loaded with carrots.

It was so good and so filling that I had enough for leftovers.

To say that I would recommend this restaurant to people if they are ever in Las Vegas , the Strip or even Downtown Las Vegas, would be an understatement.

If the weather is nice, you can sit outside and enjoy the view.

The prices are reasonable, even if you don’t do the lunch special or go for Happy Hour.

You can even do take out.

No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong with Le Thai Downtown Restaurant on 6th and Fremont in Downtown Las Vegas .

Every morning when I wake up, I always say a prayer.

Most of it goes like this, “Happy moments Praise God, Difficult moments Seek God,Painful moments Trust God, Quiet moments Worship God, Every moment Thank God.”

I thank God every day for getting me up and seeing a new day but this particular day, I DEFINITELY have to thank God for getting the Sports Diva up and seeing a new day.

Six years ago after another 12 hour shift at the black car company in Queens, New York that I worked at, I went to bed and yes, said evening prayers before going to bed so that I could get up for my 8am shift.

Something was wrong though.

My left side was numb.

I didn’t think anything of it because that happens sometimes.

For some reason, I bit down on my tongue on the left side.

I knew something was wrong.

I called my job and told them that I was on my way to the emergency room of Jamaica Hospital because I couldn’t feel my tongue, but I would let them know what was going on.

After awhile at the hospital , the doctor told me what was wrong with me.

I had suffered a mini stroke.

The ‘S’ word?

A Stroke? Mini or major? Me?

I couldn’t believe this.

To say that I was in denial would be an understatement .

Strokes happened to other people, not me.

Or so I thought.

I was 59 years old, this wasn’t supposed to be happening.

But it did. Asprin became my best friend as did a lot of reading to regain some of the memory lapses that I had.

I can say six years later, that, praise God, I am okay.

I watch what I eat and yes, I’m happy and very blessed to be alive and as long as the good Lord allows it, I’m able to go on those 30 Plus Teams Tours.

First of all, let me put it out there .

In-N-Out Burger DIDN’T sponsor this post, this is my own opinion.

(But if they were to ask me if I wanted free burgers for life when I go to wherever they have branches, oh heck yeah I’ll take them up on that offer.)

Since this is my own opinion , you can keep your Burger King , Wendy’s , McDonald’s and definately kerp those Shake Shack burgers that y’all stand in line for all over New York City .

When I lived in California, I couldn’t wait to try a “double double”, with a side of those hand cut , not frozen fries, and that mouthwatering vanilla, chocolate and strawberry milk shakes, which were the real deal, also.

So imagine my delight after all these years when I discovered that right there on the Las Vegas Strip, in the Linq Promonade , there’s that familiar food place with the red, white and yellow logo with those cheeseburgers that I loved so much .

We don’t have this food chain in the eastern part of the United States and you guessed it, the Sports Diva is not happy about this.

On my visit by myself , I ordered a double double, which are two cheeseburger patties , that are fresh, not frozen, and it comes made up with tomatoes, lettuce , and special sauce .

If you want to have onions on it, you can ask for them raw or cooked .

As for that “special sauce”, don’t ask me what that is, I have no clue, but it sure makes the cheeseburger taste just as good as I remember it.

You can also have peppers on it if you’d like .

The peppers are on the counter , right next to the ketchup .

They have little paper bags to put the peppers in.

Did I mention that nothing is frozen?

I really missed eating this burger so much that a few nights later when a friend came to Vegas, I took her to IN-N-OUT also.

It was her first time there and yes, we ate for a third time there.

They tasted just as good as I remembered all those years ago back in California .

It’s that time again for the Sports Diva to do another 30 Plus Teams Tour of the newest city on the tour, Las Vegas , Nevada .

As usual I’m going for some fun, lots of sun, meeting up with some new and old friends, and since this is a 30 Plus Teams Tour , I’m going to the NHL Awards, not the ceremony itself , but the red carpet event, which is not only loads of fun , but it’s free.

I’ll talk about the goings on at the red carpet and other related things in another post as I will be in Vegas for about a week.

Last year around about this same time, I flew Jet Blue from JFK and my flight was delayed by two hours, which meant that I basically missed a day of getting lit in Vegas and acting the fool there .

This time I’m flying out of the other airport that I usually fly out of, Philadelphia International Airport .

Now you might be asking yourself since I lived in New York City, a bus ride away from JFK as a matter of fact, why would I fly out of another airport all those miles away?

In some cases, all three New York City airports are really expensive , and many times with as hectic as JFK is, I just don’t have the patience with that airport that always seems to be expanding and adding more and more carriers every year.

Now when I return home, I’m flying Delta nonstop into JFK , because by that time I’ll have been way too tired from all the “lituraration” in Vegas .

Many of you who don’t live in the Carribean , North America or Central America, probably have heard of Southwest, let alone fly it.

Maybe you’ve seen their planes, with their splashes of blue, red and orange all over it, and let’s not forget about the heart in the middle of all their planes as well.

Southwest mostly flies into the smaller cities, like Islip, Long Island , Harlingen, Texas and Long Beach , California .

They also fly out of cities like Atlanta, all three Washington area airports, as well as San Francisco and LGA and Newark – Liberty.

Southwest doesn’t have any assigned seats, so the next time you want to sit with your significant other or you and the friends want to do your own 30 Plus Teams Tour , Southwest has got you covered so that you don’t have to ask any other passengers to switch seats with you .

You all can sit together .

Do you have bags to check ?

Southwest has you covered there , too.

Bags up to three are free.

That’s right , you pay nothing unless of course your suutcase has everything but the kitchen sink in it.

If your suircase has that much stuff in it, you have to pay excess baggage charge and that some how defeats the purpose of bags fly for free.

The only drawback I have with Southwest , is their wifi.

If you want to watch movies or tv shows, no problem.

But if you want to seach the email or watch tv, it’s $8.

Today , my flight from Philadelphia took 4 1/2 hours rather than 5 1/2.

I’m not asking how the pilot know this ?

I’m just sitting back or resting , letting the pilot do their thing .

I can’t wait to get to where I’m going .

All I can say is give us wings and take the

wheel Jesus

I’ve told you many times this summer in my quotes to get out and go somewhere .

I’m doing just that.

It’s another 30 Plus Teams Tour, which means it’s time for another edition of What’s In My Suitcase .

This time two suitcases are going .

I’m going away for a week, God willing , so I need a carryon and a bag that’s going to be checked.

More on where I’m going and my plane ride in a later post.

I’ve already packed pajamas, undies, and my hair stuff in my suitcase so you won’t be seeing that.

My chargers are in my carryon all ready, even my portable one because that’s where TSA says that’s where it’s supposed to be .

I’m not going to argue with TSA on this, I’m looking forward to my 30 Plus Teams Tour .

Here’s some of the stuff that you will see.

My hats and yes, these aren’t going on my bed because you know how superstitious the Sports Diva is- NO HATS ON THE BED!

My caryon bag from Avon and my old reliable carry on, which is getting checked in this time. Notice all those tags on my check in bag.

All my beach stuff. The leopard looking outfit was a present from my landlady and it’s actually a dress. It’s going to be used as a coverup this time. I have 3 bathing suits, because you just can’t have enough of those in the summer. The fan is what I brought during a layover in Taiwan. My beach bag is from the Boston Celtics store because I AM that sports team fashionista, even at the pool.

I’m not sure if I’m bringing all these dresses and a skirt which are from Telco , Fallas, and Pretty Girl shops here in Queens , but they sure look wicked nice.

Shorts and shirts from stores in New York City and Las Vegas .

More shirts, 2 pairs of pants, sunglasses and that black bag is my jewelry case.

Shoes, munchies, toiletries , my little wallet with kisses all over it, and yeah, a whole bag ful of Tylenol, Advil, and Ibuprofen.

My bag collection and scarves. Leopard bag is my makeup case. Gonna need those casino cards for where I’m going . That blue case holds my doodads for the nails! Brown bag is what I put my dirty clothes in. R.I.P. Kate Spade .

There you have what’s in my suitcase . Keep in mind, I might not be taking all of this stuff, but I’m gonna try!
